BenefitsThis page will tell you all about the benefits you have available to you as an EAP member and employee of the Passaic Board of Education. New employees will receive their full family benefits as follows:
State Health BenefitsHorizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NJ administer your hospitalization coverage as well as Medical/Surgical and Major Medical. This is considered the Traditional Plan. There are also many HMO and PPO plans that you can choose from. Every fall you will be afforded the opportunity to change your carrier with the change becoming effective in January 1. Your eligible dependents are your spouse and unmarried children. Children are covered until December 31st of the year of their 23rd birthday. Disabled children may be covered beyond the age of 23. Application must be made in these cases. Benefits for the Traditional Plan are paid at 80% of the UCR (Usual and Customary Rate) after the deductible and 100% when eligible charges incurred reaches $2,000.00 for the person's sickness and injuries in that calendar year. Be sure to make copies of all medical bills before mailing. Save all statements of payments received from insurance companies.
Delta Dental Plan of New JerseyEmployees may select the Delta Premier (traditional) or Delta Care (HMO) plans. If you choose the Delta Care program you will receive 100% payment for most procedures, however, you must choose a dentist on the approved Delta Care list. Changes in Delta Care dentists and from Delta Care to Delta Premier or visa versa can only be made once each year. This will take place in July or August and will be effective in September. There is a $1,500.00 maximum benefit per year (September 1st through August 31st) for the employee and each dependent. In addition to the $1,500.00 maximum per person, the plan will pay $1,000.00 maximum for orthodontics. This will be paid only once per case. This includes adults and children. Under the Delta Premier there is a $50.00 per person deductible, with a $150.00 per family maximum deductible per year (September 1st through August 31st). Children are covered through the age of 18. If a child is attending college full-time, she or he is covered until the age of 23.
Vision Services Plan of New JerseyUnder the Vision Service Plan, your spouse and children (Age 18 or 23 for college students) are covered for one vision examination and one pair of lenses and frames once every year (September 1st through August 31St).
State Health Benefits Prescription PlanThe prescription plan has no cap. The co-pay per prescription is $1.00 for generic, and $5.00 for brand name drugs for each 30 day supply of medicine. Medication may be obtained in muliples of 30 days (60 days and 90 days) for mulitples of the co-pay ($2.00 - $3.00, or $10.00 - $15.00). Children are covered until the age of 18 and 23 years old if they are in college. Disabled children are exempt from this age limit provided proof of disability if presented to the plan. In addition to the above plan, Blue Cross/Blue Shield offers a mail order Drug Program. Essentially this option offers frequent users of prescription drugs a convenient means of obtaining their medications. The advantage of the mail order option it that it provides a 90 supply of medication for the single co-pay of either $1.00 or $5.00. Any member on a maintenance drug should consider this option.

Legal ServicesAs a member, you may also seek the benefit of counsel for personal legal services at Bucceri & Pincus, Esqs. They are also part of the NJEA Attorney network of firms, which provide personal legal services to our members. After your first free 30 minutes these legal services are provided at a discount of 30% below the rate for fees normally charged by their firm. The areas covered by their legal services program include Real Estate, Wills and Estates, Domestic Relations, General Trial and Appellate Practice, Corporations and Partnerships, Consumer Protection, and Traffic Violations.
